Items proposed for consideration at the next meeting of Dispute Settlement Body

The WTO Secretariat has circulated a meeting notice and list of items proposed for the next meeting, on 19 June 2015, of the Dispute Settlement Body, which consists of all WTO members and oversees legal disputes among them. The meeting notice is circulated in the form of a document officially called an “airgram”.

DG Azevêdo tells members it is “decision time” on the Doha work programme

Director-General Roberto Azevêdo convened a meeting of all WTO members in Geneva today (17 June) to report on the current state of play in negotiations on the work programme to advance the remaining issues of the Doha Development Agenda. He reported in detail on the consultations which have been held since the last meeting of all members on 1 June, taking in the G7 meeting in Germany, an informal ministerial meeting in Paris, meetings convened by the Director-General himself on specific issues, and meetings convened by delegations to which he was invited to attend.

Switzerland donates CHF 50,000 for LDCs’ participation in Ministerial Conference

The government of Switzerland has contributed CHF 50,000 to support the participation of least-developed countries (LDCs) in the tenth WTO Ministerial Conference to take place on 15-18 December 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya. The Ministerial Conference — the WTO’s top decision-making body — is to be held in Africa for the first time.

WTO sees “slight deceleration” in G20 trade restrictions but calls for continued vigilance

The WTO’s thirteenth trade monitoring report on G20 trade measures, issued on 15 June, shows a slight deceleration in the application of new trade-restrictive measures by G20 economies, with the average number of such measures applied per month lower than at any time since 2013. The report also underlines that it is not yet clear that this deceleration will continue and it calls on G20 leaders to show continued vigilance and reinforced determination towards eliminating existing trade restrictions.
